What Inspired Me To Write My First Book
Hey Dream Achievers!
I have a big announcement….. I’m so excited to announce the release of my first book, Now What. It releases on August 22nd, and I couldn’t be happier to finally share it with you!
Today’s blog post is all about what inspired me to write Now What and a little bit about the journey that brought me to this point.
The initial inspiration for this book started back in 2014 when I was graduating from university.
I actually missed my graduation ceremony because I was volunteering in Namibia, Africa. A year later, I ended up walking with some of my friends who were graduating that year.
We were standing in the line before walking across the stage to receive our degree. It was then that I realized that this was the end of a huge chapter in my life, and I began to worry about what to do next.
From the time I was 4 years old, like anyone else, I was in the school system. I had structure, and I knew what the following year would hold because that’s what you were supposed to do.
After leaving the structure of the school system, it felt like I’d been tossed out into the great unknown, and I had no clue what to do next.
It was time to step into becoming an adult, and I began to think NOW WHAT? Everyone in the line was saying, now what? What are we going to do?
Leading up to that I had a meeting with a guidance counselor. They provided me with pamphlets about higher education and told me that people go through this all the time and that I’d just figure it out. They couldn’t provide me with the direction I felt like I needed.
So I become caught up in uncertainty and confusion about this new chapter. It took me down a very dark path.
I was depressed, anxious, and confused and all I could think about was, now what?
I ended up talking with some friends about how there’s a bit of a stigma around going through big transitions. It doesn’t have to be from graduating from college, it could be anything like going through a breakup, starting a business, moving to a new place, and even what everyone is experiencing right now with COVID.
Right now ended up being the perfect time to bring this forward. There’s so much uncertainty, lack of clarity, and people moving through some big changes due to Covid that are holding them back from achieving their dreams.
As I was transitioning out of a life of uncertainty into a life of passion, I was driven by a feeling of wanting to help others do the same. Out of the darkness stemmed my business and the ability to create the life I’ve always desired.
If you are going through an uncertain time in your life and you feel a call to help people, sometimes our darkest times can actually be our form of impact.
It doesn’t have to be writing a book if that’s not for you, but it could be sharing your journey on Instagram, it could be a blog, a Youtube channel.
If you’re going through dark times, I know it’s tough and scary, but that could be a way to help and guide other people through their tough times as well.
So, there you have it. I was inspired to write Now What because I wanted to help guide others through their Now What Moments.
I’m so excited to put it out into the world at this time because I feel like so many more people could find value in it.
In the book, I talk about how to move through your now what moment and find the clarity you need to achieve your dreams.
Once I started to clear my emotions and get clear on what I wanted in life, things started to shift. When I started to ask for help from mentors, friends, that’s when things became more clear. After that action began to flow effortlessly and things started to fall into place.
