3 Reasons Why Identifying Your Core Values Is Important
Do you know what kick started my personal development journey… connecting with my core values. Today I want to share the importance of pinpointing your core values.
Here are 3 reasons why taking the time to identify you core values is so important.
1. Identifying your core values can kick start your personal development journey.
When you first start a personal development journey, there is so much to learn. There are so many different things you can try, but I think identifying your core values is a great place to start. You will then know which paths you want to develop within yourself.
2. You will know where to focus your attention.
Life can be overwhelming. There are so many moving parts, so having a few main areas to focus on is important when it comes to goal achievement.
For example, I choose to focus on health, business, personal development/spirituality and family. Honing in on those things has simplified my life.
3. It will help you set aligned goals that you will actually achieve.
This way, your goals are specific and related to the things that matter most to you. If things matter to you, you will be more likely to achieve them.
Once you identify your core values it’s important to live in alignment with them. I believe that many of us are living lives we are not satisfied with because we are not living in alignment with our core values.
For example, if one of your values is spending time with your family, but you rarely see them. Your life probably feels dissatisfying because you are out of alignment with one of your core values.
If you value your spirituality, but you don't meditate or participate in any spiritual practice, there is a disconnect.
I truly believe if you figure out what your core values are and you live in alignment with them, with your time, energy, and money you will be more focused, have detailed goals, and have a more aligned and joyful life.
So, how do you figure out what your core values are?
I’m going to give you a list of questions that will help you discover what your core values are and how you can begin to live in alignment with them.
What are the most important things in your life?
Next, you can ask, what are things that bring you pure bliss and pure joy?
What makes you feel passionate? What makes you light up and feel excited about life?
What are the things and people you can't live without?
Once you start providing honest answers to these questions, you might see some overlap.
Once you start to see the overlap, you’ll be able to define your core values.
For example, my core values are; the people I love most, personal development, my impactful business, spirituality, adventure, and health.
So, now that you know your values. Take it a step further, where do you spend your time, energy and money?
Take an inventory of your life and see if you are living in alignment with your core values.
