3 of the Biggest Meditation Mistakes
Mediation didn’t come easily to me. I started out at NLP certification with a guided meditation. My mind was going a million miles a minute. I struggled to focus on my breath and go deeper into meditation.
I doubted that meditation would be effective for me, even though everyone said how incredible it was.
I didn’t give up, and I am so grateful because now it is a staple in my routine.
Mediation has allowed me to connect to my intuition and develop a sense of clarity that I never had before.
I've grown and evolved to a new level. I have even received my Meditation Certification since then.
Common Medication Mistakes
1. The Need to Quiet Your Mind
That is one of the biggest limiting beliefs I had when I first started. I couldn’t focus. It is actually common to have thoughts going through your mind while you meditate. I like to look at this as a way to clear my thoughts and allow them to flow out and clear my consciousness.
So just allow those thoughts to come up, but continue to sit in meditation. Allow your thoughts to wander and focus in on your breath.
2. Comparing Your Experience to Others
At the beginning of my journey, I was in a spiritual group. Lots of people had life-changing experiences with meditation. They shared having intense visions, sensations in their hands and bodies, but that was not my experience. I just felt relaxed. Sometimes I even fell asleep in my meditations. I didn't experience visions or out-of-body experiences like other people were having.
Trust that your journey is yours and it’s perfect for you.
As you continue to practice, you will step into more experiences, but just surrender to the process that will help you expand your practice to new heights.
Your meditation practice will serve you the way it needs to at the moment, even if that means just feeling chill and relaxed.
Rest assured that your experiences with meditation will grow and evolve with practice.
Now I have many visions and physical sensations when I meditate, just as others described.
3. Sticking to One Type of Meditation
I had no idea how many different types of mediation there are. There are walking meditations, guided meditations, nature meditations, meditation music, sleep, chakra clearing meditation, etc.
I found myself sticking to the same type of mediation. It’s important to explore trying different types of meditation. This will help you evolve your relationship with mediation and experience more breakthroughs and also figure out what works best for you.
My favourite meditation app is called Insight Timer. Check them out to find thousands of free meditations of all types.
